52. The Baby Registry

Betsy has dragged me forcibly to sign up for a baby registry for the baby shower. Even though I came reluctantly, I am having the time of my life. So many cute things! The saleslady gave each a portable scanner. So! list in hand we are zapping away at anything that takes our fancy. We started with the layette. We can’t stop oohing and aahing over every little garment. I check my third trimester checklist and include all of the following in the registry:

• Short-sleeve bodysuits ( 6 for each size 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9, 9-12m)
• Baby white long sleeve onesies ( 6 for each size 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m)
• Short-sleeve snap tees ( 6 for each size 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m)
• Assorted sleep N play long sleeve bodysuits (6 for each size 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m)
• Blanket.

“Let’s nor forget the baby’s toiletries,” says Betsy. I check my list:

• Baby shampoo
• Baby wash
• Baby soap
• Baby powder
• Baby lotion
• Band aid
• Bathtub
• Zap, zap, zap……

Next, the toy section. We are having a field day, like two kids set loose in a toy store. Nothing escapes our greedy scanners: plush toys, educational toys and books or simply fun toys.

We then move to the baby furniture section. So many choices!! I linger near each crib, dresser, changing table. Each design has its charm. A white crib and dresser set catches my eyes. Zap, zap. There! They are in the registry.

Each bedding is a work of art. Each one designed around a theme or a pattern; little pink ballerinas, sailors and boats, nursery rhymes.

We decide to take a break. On our way out, I fall in love with this beautiful hand-carved solid oak rocking chair. i sit in it and let out a deep sigh.

“Let’s add it to the registry,” says Betsy.

“NO! I am going to buy it now.”
